Massive Manufacturing: The Promise and Peril of Nanotechnology

This article by Chris Phoenix, Director of Research at the US based Center for Responsible Nanotechnology gives a concise and accessible introduction to nanotechnology.  If reading this month's CSR Expert View has whetted your appetite to find out more about nanotechnology, then “Massive Manufacturing” will provide you with more detail on how the technology works, why it is so incredibly precise and what unique characteristics that precision gives to nano-engineered objects.  Chris Phoenix also explores the possible consequences of nanotechnology development, not least the problems that could arise as we think about who could and should have access to technology that could cause massive social, economic and therefore political changes.    You will also find it interesting to see what the Center for Responsible Nanotechnology believes are the urgent actions needed by government and business.
