A change in the business climate

A change in the business climate

Financial Times (Supplement: Business and Climate Change), 15 February 2005, p2

Fiona Harvey writes on the emerging business critical issue of climate change, not just as an environmental concern, but also as part of wider risk management strategy. With the Emissions Trading Scheme, a new mechanism exists for companies to turn climate change from a threat to an opportunity.

Dr Paul Toyne, Director of Article 13 suggests: “these actions by business demonstrate their social responsibility. However, the key issue in my mind is how, with these extra costs, can British companies remain competitive globally when their competitors are not acting responsibly? Hence the need for global consensus and the importance of a level playing field, or the need for more government support."
