Financial reporting is a critical tool in demonstrating business performance and transparency, but the complexity of today's businesses means that financial analysis alone can be misleading. A broader approach incorporating corporate governance, risk management and sustainability is required. That approach should draw on what is often called the 'new normal', namely the fact that everything is interconnected, whether it be a company's financial performance, its employees' welfare or the environment in which the business operates.
