Global Pharmaceutical Company - biannual executive consultancy

Client challenge

Pharmaceutical companies are exposed to risk in every aspect of their operations.  The Executive Committee of a Global Pharmaceutical company, ever conscious of this fact, realised that to keep their board fully informed and to maintain the company’s competitiveness as a responsible business required that they were up to speed with current and emerging issues, their implications and how they might be addressed.  To achieve the desired level of awareness, however, required a strategic approach combined with external expertise to act as challenge and debate and with benchmarking to facilitate the development of ideas.

What did we do?

Article 13 runs the biannual meetings with one or more designated members of the Pharmaceutical company's CSR Committee.  Each session runs for approximately three hours and involves two senior business responsibility and governance specialists from Article 13.  The meetings were designed to provide an opportunity for reflection and a safe space to challenge in an informal way.  Discussion topics are dictated by current business needs and events in the industry as a whole, but may range from environmental strategy, approaches to dealing with access to medicine issues through to reporting and certification and emerging issues.

Article 13’s comprehensive in-house press scanning service tracks emerging issues and provided input to the sessions.  Key information is then reviewed, analysed and documented by the future scenarios and risk management teams.  These strategic papers are used as a foundation for the consultancy meetings.

Finally, after each session, the client is provided with an overview of the meeting’s proceedings with strategic advice on next steps, recommended approaches and implementation.

How did we break the cycle?

Article 13 draws on extensive knowledge of business responsibility, issues and risks, and the pharmaceutical industry to ensure the client has taken emerging risks into account and planned for them accordingly.
