Arqiva - resonating company values with its approach to CSR
Client challenge
Arqiva are a values-driven company who recently undertook a ‘grass-roots up’ approach. They worked with Article 13 to revitalise their values and help test them for resonance with the business. Similarly Arqiva had made a public commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) on their website and wanted to resonate it with its values and appropriately reflect what was being practiced.
To achieve the desired long term, strategic and joined up approach to CSR, Arqiva first needed to understand ‘where we are now’ and from that build a costed and prioritised proposal for ‘where to go next’.
What did we do?
Article 13 provided expertise in analysing Arqiva’s current CSR activities, and proposed next ‘step advice’ which would resonate with Arqiva’s values. The work needed to be mindful of the desire for CSR to be embedded and integrated into the running of Arqiva as well as of future business challenges, risks and opportunities that may arise, e.g. governance and ethics.
The first phase involved the initial step of holding focus groups and workshops with stakeholders across the business to identify their views, possible gaps, and areas of opportunity and barriers. Article 13 also carried out focus groups with functional departments and divisions to reinforce the transparency and accountability of their stakeholder engagement. The next step was to inform the final report, ‘Where are we now’, with long term implications for CSR in Arqiva. This involved future scanning; a variety of methods undertaken by Article 13’s specialist futures team to build a list of future issues that would impact on business and CSR. The final area of input of stakeholder views were insight interviews that aimed to capture informative views on the current CSR activities of Arqiva and its values.
Additional to the engagement processes and analysis methods, was benchmarking expertise, which was sector specific where appropriate. By using a list of Arqiva’s competitors, key partners and customers, as well as identified best practice in the field of CSR, Article 13 was able to identify issues relevant to Arqiva and provide best practice advice on how to tackle them. This gap assessment also allowed for areas potentially overlooked to be measured and addressed.
The final part pulled together the evidence and analysis to identify the value of; current CSR activity, prioritised risk and opportunity, financial costs and benefits (model), and analysis for ‘where are we now’ report. This provided basis for the report to the board and the recommendations for next steps.
Innovation PLUS
Article 13’s approach to addressing Arqiva’s CSR, built distinctiveness in the field and delivered innovative and culturally relevant work. By utilising best-in-class assessment and reporting techniques Article 13 were able to provide the board with robust and quality recommendations for the next steps.
