Prospect - training in CSR and the Millennium Development Goals
Client challenge
In collaboration with Article 13, Prospect had previously developed a model CSR trade union policy and toolkit which incorporated the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and trade union values of international core labour standards/trade union principles of decent and fair work. Prospect wished to take this to the next step by providing training for its members around integrating the Millennium Development Goals into CSR policies and strategies of their members’ organisations.
What did we do?
Article 13 experts developed a course which laid down a grounded and realistic framework for understanding the issues surrounding CSR and the MDGs. This included a futures scenario outlook on how CSR may look in the mid-term future and how the MDG targets fitted in, or alongside, an organisation’s CSR activities. This innovative aspect of the training enabled delegates to take away a practical and comprehensive understanding of how to:
- identify a best in class CSR strategy;
- understand the elements crucial to a CSR strategy;
- understand the role of trade union members in their organisations’ integration of CSR and the MDGs; and
- create a toolkit to aid trade union members in delivering CSR and engagement with different stakeholders.
This engaging and hands on course was geared specifically to three different audiences for which Prospect wished to provide the training. All of this work was externally evaluated and monitored by a steering committee throughout the project.
Innovation PLUS
Article 13 developed a training course which added value by raising awareness and understanding of the issues within Prospect member organisations. Additionally, it facilitated members’ understanding of how to actively promote the relationship between CSR and the MDG targets.
