Skanska - supporting education in the community
Client challenge
While the government often views large construction projects in deprived areas as a driver for economic growth and regeneration, how can the benefits of the project be accurately assessed? Skanska was working in a competitive dialogue process for an ongoing bid. It was noted that Skanska’s bid needed to meet the local borough’s needs and therefore Skanska sought ways in which it could improve its presence in the community.
What did we do?
Article 13 conducted a stakeholder engagement programme to identify links with other sources of funding: local business; CSR and philanthropy activities and budgets; innovative partnerships and items not included in the competitive dialogue provision specification and an economic impact analysis.
Article 13 identified additional economic benefits for the local community resulting from investment in education. The analysis also explored the demographic factors of the area to maximise the benefit to the community from Skanska’s proposal. We analysed in terms of construction, school construction, Skanska’s operations and education improvement. Article 13’s final report expressed the economic benefits of improving education through examples of assisting the poorest performing students to gain employment and contribute to the local economy.
Innovation PLUS
Article 13 enabled the organisation to communicate the value of their bid via a financial impact analysis and putting a value on the work intended.
